Emerging Market Crises and Global Governance: Lessons from Turkey. Since the mid-nineteenth century,Turkey has endured an exceptional number and range of experiences with economic crises. This book examines this history, focusing on when and why crises have been taken as opportunities to redirect policies to meet the deep requirements for development and avoidance of future crises. The analysis extends the rich litterature on domestic political impediments to change and brings in the extra dimension of how the major institutions of global governance and "the rules of the game" have influenced policy decisions in crises. Expected completion date, end-2010.
